Send me Notes From The Winemaker so I can stay up to date with Barboursville Wines:
|
| Wines of Our Italian Heritage |
| Founded in 1976 as Virginia’s first vineyards to concentrate exclusively in vinifera
winegrowing, Barboursville is the sole non-Italian winegrowing estate to be created by
Casa Vinicola Zonin, spA, of Gambellara, Veneto. Now in their 7th generation, Zonins
have been continuously engaged in winegrowing since 1821, and produce estate-grown wines
in every principal region of Italy, including Veneto, Tuscany, Piemonte, and Sicily. To
this incomparable diversity of expertise and experience is added the hands-on winemaking
leadership of Luca Paschina, a second-generation winemaker from Piemonte, and Francesco Baravalle, also from Piemonte. Our commitment to the following varietals
is an expression of how beautifully our terroir
in the Virginia Piedmont lends itself to the consistent production of exceptional vintages
in these wines, marked by extraordinary varietal integrity.

Phileo
price per bottle $15.99
Winner of the San Francisco Gold Medal for Moscato, the Monticello Cup, and placements on the finest wine lists, Philéo projects a literally irresistible freshness. It is often praised for the expectations it defies -- it isn’t cloying, it isn’t syrupy. Effusively and gorgeously aromatic of roses and apricots, with an intriguingly light lusciousness, it is one of the most elegant and versatile dessert wines produced anywhere in the New World, and one of our most beloved. Chef Patrick O’Connell of The Inn at Little Washington presented Philéo for dessert on his guest appearance at Ferran Adría’s equally esteemed E Bulli restaurant in Barcelona. Its claim upon the human smile is universal. Click Here for Full Description

Malvaxia Reserve Passito 2005
price per bottle $29.99
With the 2001 vintage we introduced a new blend in a beloved winery favorite, our first Passito dessert wine, based on the most extravagant hand-crafting tradition. The grapes are carefully hand-selected and air-dried for 4 months before gentle pressing. A slow and cool fermentation over 6 months, followed by 18 months of barrel aging, produces an intensely luscious concentration of flavors and aromas, in a still elegantly balanced and alluringly fresh, long-finishing wine.
